About The Artist
Born in Victoria’s Yarra Ranges at Healsville in 1966,Kurun is a native of the Gunditjmara tribe. His culture and heritage can be traced back to Truganini, the last surviving Tasmanian Queen. Kurun was taught and encouraged by his mother to begin painting at a young age, today he is recognized worldwide for both his artistic and musical skills.
Now based in Noosa hinterland in South East Queensland, Kurun’s art depicts the evolution of contemporary Aboriginal abstract art. Whilst his paintings are often not clear cut at first glimpse, however the dreaming they characterize starts to reveal his unique and individual technique through colour, line and space. Kurun Warun also finds expression through traditional dance and music.
Being an accomplished didgeridoo musician he has performed around the world in places which have included Italy and Korea. He played a role in the Sydney 2000 Olympic games as a traditional artist, has also appeared on NBC in the United States and before Chelsea Clinton, former US president’s daughter.
