Maureen Baker

 

Maureen Baker was born at Warakurna  Western Australia in July 1962. She is known as a Ngaanyatjarra woman.

 

The focus of her paintings refer to her  father’s country which is located a short distance from Tjukurla and Kulkurdaare .

 

They portray the  multitude of  the people which also included her ancestors  that crossed this land in   mythological times  referring to  the countless stories and hardships  that they  encountered during their travels.

 

They  also refer to such  landmarks  as    waterholes ,lakes,  underground creeks and the travel routes taken on these epic journeys.
