Ida Granites Nangala was born at Yuendumu which is located approximately 295Km North West of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory in 1954
Ida belongs to the Walpiri tribe and is married to Dr. Rex Daniel Granites Japanangka. (Also a recognized artist) and they have a daughter.
Artistic talent runs deep in Ida’s family tree which has produced some highly talented and respected artists which include her cousins Audri Martin Napanangka, the late Nora Long Napanangka and current nieces Janet Long Nakamarra and Doreen Long Nakamarra.
Ida seems to focus the themes of her paintings subjects / dreaming on the landscape which surrounds her birth place and the importance they contribute to the people of Yuendumu daily life style. These dreaming take in topics such as “Mina Mina” Bush Food/ Tucker, General Community Living and Water Dreaming.
