Christopher Japangardi Poulson was born in Yuendumu, a remote Aboriginal settlement 290 kms North West of Alice Springs. He obtained his primary education at Yuendumu and then went on to an Aboriginal boarding college in Darwin. There he trained to be an assistant teacher and returned to Yuendumu where he worked at the local school for many years.
Christopher started painting with the local indigenous art centre in 1992. He paints the stories associated with his traditional country. His painting are a representation of stories which have been passed down to him from his ancestors and more recently by his father.
