Bessie lives at Utopia with her mother Polly Ngala and her aunties Kathleen and Angeline Pwerle Ngala all renowned artists in their own right. Her mother taught her to paint and both share the same dreaming-Bush Plum. The paintings depict the subject and the effect of its growth patterns on her country. She illustrates the topography in shades of reds, oranges, yellows, pinks and purples reflecting the varying seasonal palette of the plum. This is achieved by building up layer upon layer of colour producing a multi-dimensional effect to reveal the bush plum and surrounding landscape in all its splendour.
